I was pleased to find a picture of one of "my" C-47's on your site. We had 2 Base Flight Goonies, tail numbers 758 and 852 stationed at Cam Ranh. I was a flight mechanic/engineer on them from October '68 till June '70. Many of our missions were to fly your equipment [PMEL] all aver Viet Nam. I really didn't know much about your cargo, other than the weight, for computing the aircraft weight and balance, but we made tons of PMEL runs. Our base flight operation was called Sand Blower Airlines with a motto of "YOU CALL,WE HAUL". Our Goonie Birds were great old planes. Thanks for the business, it kept me in the air where it was cool and offered a great view of a mostly beautiful country.
I spent two weeks in Cam Ranh Bay waiting to find out whre I would be sent next.
You are right though. One thing I remember is that it was a beautiful country except for charley and the war.
