Title: Sierra 2760 Repairs
Post by: rkfrancis1086 on 01-07-2005 -- 19:33:00
Are any other bases having problems with the Sierra 2760 Peak Power Calibrator?  We have three and two are broke.   The third is now about to die.  We have two at the vendor for repairs.

Has any one had sucess in repairing these units?  The Company is in Canada.

We had one go down just a few weeks ago here at Keesler in the TACAN course.  The PMEL here tagged it for return to Robins per the IM.

It was my understanding that the original manufacturer (Sierra) went out of business and there aren't any parts available for repair at the local level.  I figured that eventually there would be a third party repair contract if Sierra wasn't around to fix them.  Just curious, are you using Sierra or a third-party to repair yours?

Overall, they are a nice unit when they work, however I haven't heard a whole lot of success stories regarding their longevity.

Another company has purchased the rights to this system.  I'll get the companies name and email it to you tomorrow.

It sounds like a chance for a company to make some money. If I had my own company I would look into repairing them. You ought to ask CMI if they are willing to start repairing them. I wonder if you can get the full service manual.

How were you able to arrange the repair?  Is it because you are a contractor and/or paying for it yourself?  I only ask because we are trying to get 2 repaired here and the IM told us that there should be a contract in place this coming fiscal year...

It has become such a hot issue due to training (base PMELs is broken too).  We've even asked about getting a couple of 397s fixed down there at Robins.
