Title: FBI jobs: GS7 through 13
Post by: FBI ET on 07-27-2009 -- 16:00:46
There is a strong support for current and ex-military personnel employment in the FBI.   If you have not already, complete your resume on www. usajobs. gov and start applying for any and all positions.   This will get your foot in the door and your TS/SCI clearance started.   Once on board, it is easier to move around to ET, IT and other positions.

The hard part is finding people that can get the TS clearance: no drug, drinking or financial problems, no non-US citizen spouses, no hidden problems that can be used to leverage you for information.   There is something like an 80% failure rate on clearances.   Hence my  suggestion to apply for everything, get your clearance done and then look for the better positions.   ONce you have you clearance, your employment is just about guaranteed for life.

Hmmm... no drugs...no booze....no financial problems.  Oh dear how boring......

Does a Q cross over?

Ok Larry which job are you trying to get filled

http://jobsearch.usajobs.gov/Search.aspx?lid=316&sort=rv%2c-dtex&jbf574=DJ02&vw=d&re=134&FedEmp=N&FedPub=Y&caller=agency.aspx

If that search link works correctly there are 25 results in the FBI. All "agent" positions also require a certain level of fitness.

There are no 2602 positions listed at all on usajobs.gov.

Do you have something in mind?

Dang!  I go all the way to Denmark to get a wife, and 19 years later the FBI doesn't want me.   Rotten luck!   :-D

I know people who had US spouses that couldn't stay together for a year, but they can get the TS clearance?  What kinda hoo-ha is that?

Actually right now there are 2 AF and 17 Navy 2602 jobs there, just remember to check the little box at the bottom about Vet eligibility (assuming you iz one).
None for a G-Man calibrator though or undercover metrologist

There are no 2602's in the bureau.   I am talking about OTHER positions just to get your foot in the door and get your clearance done.   You will find the GS positions pay FAR better than a WG2602 which is where I came from - WG11 to GS11 and yearly increased to GS13 (ET - 0856).   There is also future potential to land a GS-14 position once I complete my Bacholer's degree.

So, just to be clear, put your name in for any position.   If selected, your background will start and take upwards of a year to complete.   Once completed, start your new job.   Prove yourself, network some once inside, and start working for the higher payscale positions.   This could be an ET (GS-0856), IT or other position that may interest you.   Result: very good job security, very good payscale, something different than calibration (i know i had my fill after 23 years: military, civilian, DoD contractor and DoD civilian) and a security clearance that will guarantee a job in many fields in the government and outside should the bureau not be your cup of tea.

As for spouses, if they have their US Citizenship there are no issues.   If they do not, then the bureau does not like the dual loyalty aspect they might hold.   They may eventually back off of this but that is policy for now.

When I was getting out of the Army years ago. The ATF was looking at me for a position (they needed technically competent people).  And they insisted I to pay my own way for Washington DC for an interview.

They really sent me the wrong message. They needed good people but the were not going to pay to get them.

Is the FBI set up the say way.  Because I will tell you calibrators are no dummies..

certain level of fitness, bachelors degree, 23 years of age, but younger than 37 upon your appointment as a Special Agent (which excludes military retirees).

personally, my TS clearance never was brought up at any job interview.

Try www. fbijobs. gov and select SUPPORT jobs for the non-agent positions.   It will then link you to usajobs for some of the application process.

One ET position in DC: http://jobsearch. fbijobs.gov/getjob.asp?JobID=82886634&AVSDM=2009-08-20+11%3A13%3A00&Logo=0&FedEmp=Y&sort=rv&vw=d&jbf574=DJ02&brd=3876&ss=0&FedPub=N&SUBMIT1.x=67&SUBMIT1.y=19

Again, there are no 2602 positions, just GS-0856 for ET's but the payscale is BETTER than any 2602 since all ET positions go up to GS12.   The work is far more up and down (busy then quiet) than the constant stream of equipment you see in a cal lab.   I spent 23 years all on the bench in cal labs, all areas and in a variety of labs and this job has been a refreshing change and a big bump in pay.   That's my reason for putting the word out and we could definitely use ET's with the in-depth electronics knowledge that PMEL techs have.

As for flying for interviews, just like with any government branch, they do not have the flexibility of a civilian company in flying applicants in for interviews.   An ET manager may fly to you but that is about it.
