Title: COUNT DOWN TO "WORLD METROLOGY DAY" (May 20th)
Post by: Hawaii596 on 05-07-2009 -- 15:31:37
IT'S ALMOST HERE!!!!!  As of this posting, 13 more days.  I JUST found out that at NIST in Gaithersburg, MD,

"...Lisa Weddig, the director of regulatory and technical affairs at the National Fisheries Institute (NFI) in McLean, Va., will describe international trade and the importance of accurate measurements for seafood products, which represent billions of pounds of commerce every year. Fair competition between seafood suppliers only becomes possible when all sellers declare the proper weight on seafood products and avoid deceptive practices such as substituting a cheaper species of fish for the one listed on the label. NFI members have established the Better Seafood Board to ensure that fair trade exists with proper declarations on seafood products." - extracted from WorldMetrologyDay.org website.

I'm so excited I'm having trouble sleeping at night.  I have some nerdy (non-PMEL) friends at church I recently told about World Metrology Day, and I recall as if it were yesterday their answer, "What's Metrology?"

Slightly seriously though, I'm thinking of sending an email submission to Fox News and CNN to see if they decide to somehow at least give it some small coverage (I'm really thinking of doing it).

So I'm wondering how everyone else is thinking of celebrating WORLD METROLOGY DAY.

I'll probably have 2 or 3 long neck budweisers. Of course, I'll probably do that on the 19th and 21st too.  :-D

When I was at Ramstein, we did the meat scales at the commisary, but never touched the produce scale. The produce scales at most supemarkets are the old hanging platform, that may be off of zero by as much as 1/2 pound. Obviously, the most important scales for the produce are at the registers, although I never have seen a state W&M inspection sticker on one...

Title: HAPPY "WORLD METROLOGY DAY" (May 20th) - TODAY

Oh no!!!  Winterfire is a personal friend of mine.  What to do, what to do...

By the way, HAPPY WORLD METROLOGY DAY, EVERY ONE!!!!!!  It's celebratory level is probably second only to FESTIVUS FOR THE REST OF US.

It was amazing as I came into work this morning.  There were World Metrology Day flags on all the light poles along the highways, our city will hold exactly one minute of silence (plus or minus 1 second, with an uncertainty of 0.01 seconds) at exactly noon (plus or minus 1 second, with an expanded uncertainty of 0.01 seconds).  Our entire lab is wearing WORLD METROLOGY DAY jumpsuits.  Every certificate generated today will have WORLD METROLOGY DAY on the top.  Our break room is completely decorated, and we have one of those seven-up and sherbet punch bowls.

Oh, oh, oh..... one more thing.  In celebration, I have a 10 O'clock doctors appointment this morning.

Oh, okay... I made the whole thing up (except for the doctors appointment).  If anyone else has any creative fabrications of what they're figuratively doing today, I'd like to hear them.

I got a new Spec an and a microwave counter from the Metrology Wizard ( he is like Santa ). I woke up this morning and found them neatly wrapped under my Metrology Day tree. I got a Hi-Voltage probe, RF connectors and a Fluke 87 in my stocking. I also got pressure connectors and fittings in the plastic eggs he left in my metrology basket. What did everyone else get? The Wizard was good to me this year. I must have been good.
