Title: Liquid Flow Calibration Needed
Post by: fwisdo on 05-07-2009 -- 08:31:20
I am the calibration engineer for Harris Corporation in Palm Bay, FL. We are looking for a lab to perform liquid flow, Z540.1 not 17025, calibrations for an Omega SYS/FTB9502 flowmeter with DP-F31-LIN indicator. The viscosity of the liquid is 8.67CST. The range is 0.007 to 0.100 GPM. Please let me know of any labs that can perform this calibration. Omega is taking way too long and we are generally not happy with their service.

Thanks for your help,
Frank J. Wisdo

I am glad to know that someone else is not happy with Omega (not that I am happy that you are dissatisfied).   Having the same issues I phoned their customer service, gave them a model number of one of my flowmeters, and they told me it was a 4 week turn around!  I almost fell out.   But I guess these hard times are hitting them as well.

We are going to try Dick Munns (. com).   We have used them in the past thru a middle man.   We are now going direct to them.   The reason I selected them was the lead time was 10 days and the cost was 1/4 th of the others.

The other labs we checked out were Flow Dynamics (. com) and Liquid Flow Calibrations (. com).

I don't know which one can handle the range you specified.   You will just have to look at their scope or call and ask them.

Good Luck with your search.

Homer Dulin does a fair job with our rotometers, so I think that they may be able to cal liquid flow as well. DH can do flow, but I have not used them.
BTW, I like Omega instruments, but greatly dislike their calibrations. I would never one as a valid certification, for one, because we require 17025, but also because the calibrations are hardly thorough. They do a 2 point cal for load cells, for example.

Thank you both for your input. I went with Flow Technology.
